Dialogue on Population and Sustainable Development The High Commissioner delivered a brief message to the 19th International Dialogue on Population and Sustainable Development, where she welcomed the discussion in which young people would be contributing their views on how to overcome barriers to their sexual and reproductive health and rights
Asia's environment defenders Speaking to a forum in Bangkok on defense of the environment in the Asia-Pacific region, the High Commissioner pointed out the dangers under which many Asian and Pacific environmental human rights defenders operate. She called for urgent and decisive State action to improve work on environmental issues, and to protect courageous and principled defenders
Girls and Leaders At an event to mark World Children's Day, High Commissioner Bachelet said "Nothing should be decided about you without you" – adding that "listening to young people is not just the only way to forge good policy: it is an obligation under international human rights law"
Equal Access to Justice for All The High Commissioner addressed the forum for on Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law with the theme of equal access to justice for all: a necessary element of democracy, rule of law and human rights protection. She emphasized three points, first, trust in public institutions must be restored, second meaningful participation is essential, and third, justice needs to be people centred.
World Congress on Justice with Children The High Commissioner addressed the World Congress on Justice with children, where she stressed the important message, that children should not be in prisons. Stressing that according to international law, the deprivation of liberty of children should only be used as a measure of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period of time possible.
Strengthening national efforts to address hate speech and discrimination The High Commissioner addressed the GAAMAC IV, with the theme of strengthening national efforts to address hate speech, discrimination and prevent incitement. Stressing that hate speech, discrimination and incitement to hatred are among the main drivers of atrocity crimes, and it is critical to prevent and address them.
WHO Global Evidence-to-Policy Summit The High Commissioner addressed the WHO Global Evidence-to-Policy Summit, emphasizing that with human rights and scientific evidence, we can still win back the development gains that we have been recently lost; we can reverse the pandemic of inequalities that COVID-19 has exacerbated; and we can rise out of this crisis with an equitable, sustainable, and resilient world
